Families of 125 more Savar victims get financial help

The prime minister, Sheikh Hasina, Thursday said her government made arrangements for improved treatment of the garment workers injured in the Savar building collapse, apart from providing financial assistance to the family members of the deceased and wounded.
She stated this after distributing cheques for financial assistance at her office, in the third phase, from the Prime Minister’s Relief and Welfare Fund among the family members of 125 victims who were killed in the tragic building collapse.
Hasina said that as per the suggestions of the physicians some of the wounded workers would be sent abroad including Bangkok and Singapore for better treatment.
She said arrangement was also made to meet the costs of treatment for the injured at various hospitals in the country.
The prime minister asked the BGMEA leaders to take necessary measures to provide financial assistance to the family members of the victims from their organisation.
BGMEA president Atiqul Islam informed the prime minister that they had already paid Tk 6 crore as one month’s salary of the workers of Rana Plaza and also paid the costs of treatment of the injured.
In some cases, the cheques were distributed among more than one member of a family as per the directives of the prime minister to ensure that all the deserving members of the victims’ family are benefited.
Later, different organisations including the industries ministry, Cabinet Division,, communications ministry and financial institutions and individuals handed over cheques of financial assistance to the Relief and Welfare Fund of the Prime Minister for Savar victims.
Hasina received the cheques of donation from industries minister Dilip Barua, cabinet secretary M Musharraf Hossain Bhuiyan, Bangladesh Bank Governor Atiur Rahman, Road Division secretary MAN Siddique and representatives of various organisations.
Earlier, Madhumati Bank Limited handed over 100 wheel chairs to the prime minister for the victims of Rana Plaza collapse in Savar.
